Specs

Product description

The revolutionary boat drive:
ultra lightweight, ultra mobile, ultra strong

The foldable Torqeedo outboards with integrated lithium-
manganese high-performance battery redefine mobility:

  • With their integrated lithium-manganese, high-performance battery, the Travel motors are the only electric outboard
motors which do not need an external battery connection.
  • The Torqeedo Travel is a true lightweight: with a total weight of 11.4 kg (short shaft version) including battery, it is asserting itself as the lightest outboard on the market.
  • The Travel models are the only foldable outboard motors available on the market. They come in a waterproof travel pack and, hence, are unique with regard to their transportability. With their dimensions of 310 x 320 x 450 mm, they can easily be stowed away on board or at home.
  • Together with the BaseTravel and Torqeedo Cruise models, the Travel models are the most efficient motors around at the moment. Their efficiency is up to twice that of the conventional motors.

The sum total of these properties make a Torqeedo Travel motor into the perfect drive for small boats, dinghies, tenders, jollies, and daysailors up to 1.5 tons of displacement. There is simply no competition when it comes to performance, transport and space-saving storage – both on board and on land.

More control by combining stepless speed control and defined speeds

In addition to the stepless forwards/reverse drive over all power ranges, the Travel 401 / 801 models are equipped with predefined speeds. These have been defined for maximization of the range traveled and as 1 hour traveling time with a full battery (2 hours for Travel 401). This provides the user with additional possibilities to check and regulate the power consumption and range of the boat.

Downwards compatible:
The Travel also runs on lead batteries

For uses where the mobility of the Travel model is not important or where a larger battery bank is required, the motor can also be connected to standard lead batteries using the batter adapter delivered as an accessory.

To be taken easily:

Due to their unique folding mechanism, the Torqeedo Travel models can be reduced to a handy format.
In the waterproof travel pack, the motor can be transported easily. The Torqeedo Travel can also easily be stored on board and only requires a little space. This ensures balanced weight distribution during sailing, and makes it into the optimum electric motor propulsion system for smaller boats. The integrated LIMA high-performance batteries are immune against memory-effects and keep their charge stable, even when stored for months.

magnetic key on the remote throttle control is removed. Therefore, for safety reasons, the magnetic key should be attached to the wrist or the life vest.

Welcome to the present:
Torqeedo Power on a lithium-manganese basis

Torqeedo now provides state-of-the-art batteries for the electrical boat drive. For boat drives, the Torqeedo Power  batteries stand for an enormous increase in performance  compared to conventional battery systems. Five arguments speak for Torqeedo Power:

1) Increased energy density over lead batteries: the high-power batteries of the Torqeedo Power range are lithium based and, hence, have an enormous energy density. This is a decisive advantage when you consider the limited volume and weight in the boat. There are also significant advantages over heavy lead batteries when it comes to handling.

2) Improved resistance to high current: conventional batteries can only provide a fraction of their nominal capacity in the case of load in the typical power range of larger electric motors. Torqeedo Power batteries, on the other hand, never let you down even when faced with the utmost loads on a boat.

3) Higher charge stability: Torqeedo Power batteries remain charged for several months even when they are stored. This is particularly important for the use of the electric drive as an auxiliary motor. In this respect too, they are way superior to conventional batteries.

4) Improved performance in the cold: lead batteries hardly perform at all at cold external temperatures. The Torqeedo Power, on the other hand, releases practically its full power even at cold outside temperatures. This is a tremendous advantage should an electric motor be used not only during the summer.

5) Higher safety standards than all other lithium-based battery systems: the LIMA lithium-manganese cells used by Torqeedo are currently the only lithium batteries which also withstand all safety standards when the safety electronics are switched off. (See chapter entitled “Battery technology”). Nevertheless, each and every cell of the Torqeedo Power battery has its own safety mechanism. Torqeedo is the first provider to make the LIMA cells available for boat drives.

In addition to the advantages mentioned in the above, the Torqeedo Power Series is also characterized by its long life expectancy.

Normally, the capacity of a lithium battery system changes with the passing of time after its production. A lithium battery thereby loses around 4% of its capacity per annum. This ageing process is not significantly changed during use by the number of cycles. The batteries also do not have any memory effect. However, the lifetime of the battery changes dependent on the storage temperature and the charge state during storage. To increase the lifetime of the battery it should be discharged when possible if stored for a longer period of time and it should be stored in a cool environment. On the other hand, a long storage time in fully-charged state at high temperatures, e.g. over 40° C, reduces the lifetime of the battery.
