More Detail

Dosage = 40g per cu meter water.  This is best pre-grown overnight in a small container containing say 500 ml of water at 20C with aeration prior to addition.  When applied if a UV filter is employed this should be switched off in order to prevent killing the freshly applied bacteria.

Pond Regeneration Product

Composition

The product contains:

  • selected, naturally occurring, Hazard Group 1 floc-forming micro-organisms which can rapidly metabolise a wide range of substrates
  • surfactants to aid the degradation process
  • free enzymes and nutrients
  • cereal based carrier

Microbial Content

The product contains 12 strains belonging to the Azotobacter, Bacillus, Pseudomonas and Chaetomium genera. The component strains include both aerobic and facultative organisms. The total viable count in the ready to use product is not less than 5.0 x 108 cfu/g.

Applications

Amnite AG100 is suitable for regeneration of ponds overrun with algae. The product is particularly suited to treat ponds with filamentous algae. After the initial treatment a maintenance dosing with the product is recommended. The product has also been successfully used to grow crops such as rice which are grown in water filled fields. In hydroponics the product has been used to keep irrigation channels clean and free of algae. The product is best applied after activation.

Summary

Amnite AG100 is a granular powder which rapidly degrades a wide variety of compounds including fat, oil and grease, proteins, sugars, starch and cellulose. Application of the product prevents the algae from flourishing. The micro-organisms in the product, being good floc-formers, also help to clarify the water. The product is safe to use and will not affect the well-being of the natural flora and fauna. It does not contain any pathogens.

Project Objective

AG100 is a microbially based product produced by Cleveland Biotech Limited UK. It consists of a mixture of components including bacteria. The product is supplied in a cellulose based semi permeable sachet ready for incubation.

Work performed during the summer at Cockle Park Experimental Station, Northumberland England and Growers trials in Australia found that application of AG100 to hydroponically grown crops produced positive results for growth rate and disease control. These experiments showed that plants treated with AG100 produced higher harvestable weights and a reduction in certain diseases such as Botrytis cinerea when compared to untreated plants. A series of experiments were undertaken in order to further investigate the benefits of AG100 in a more scientifically exacting environment. These experiments were performed at Cockle Park Experimental Station by the University of Newcastle upon Tyne as part of a postgraduate research programme. This report summarises the results of these experiments.

There were two main areas of investigation -

  1. To investigate the effects of application of AG100 on lettuce grown in a commercial hydroponics system. The aim was to determine if the product produced any positive effects on growth or levels of Botrytis.
  2. The second stage was to determine which if any of the main components were causing the beneficial effects. Four different forms of AG100 were prepared, each one having a major component removed.

Project Conclusions

The experiments performed have shown:-

  1. Applications of AG100 can increase leaf and total dry weights of harvestable crop.
  2. Treated plants produced equal or greater harvestable weights in some cases with up to 40 % less nutrient solution and this could represent a significant saving in the production costs of hydroponically grown crops.
  3. AG100 reduced the incidence of Botrytis offering opportunities to save on the cost of chemical disease control and a positive attribute to consumers who would perhaps prefer fewer chemicals applied to crops.
